The mass of sodium hydroxide M2 (kg) required for removing the carbon dioxide of M1 (kg) can be calculated as follows.

The reaction formula of sodium hydroxide and carbon dioxide is as follows.

2NaOH(aq) + CO2(g) → Na2CO3(aq) + H2O(l)

To remove 1 (mol) of carbon dioxide, 2 (mol) of sodium hydroxide is required.

If the molar mass of carbon dioxide is m1 (g/mol) and the molar mass of sodium hydroxide is m2 (g/mol), M2 can be calculated as follows.

2M1/m1 = M2/m2

M2 = (2M1/m1)m2
