The discharge Q through a submerged weir is calculated by the ratio to the discharge in case of complete overflow.

If the discharge under complete overflow condition is Q1,

Q/Q1 = [1-(d/h)^(n)]^0.385

where, d : height of downstream water level avove the weir crest level (downstream water level - weir crest level)
h : height of upstream water level avove the weir crest level (upstream water level - weir crest level)

Rearranging the above,

Q = Q1*[1-(d/h)^(n)]^0.385
where, n : 1.5 for sharp-crested weir
                 2.5 for V-notch weir of 90 degrees (For this V-notch weir, Q = 2.5h^2.5)
