In tests of liquid limit, one of the Atterberg limits of soil, relationship between water content (w) and number of blows (N) is nearly linear and is called the flow curve. The water content on the curve for N=25 is the liquid limit for soil.

The slope of flow curve, i.e. flow index, is :
