Thermal stress is stress caused by differences in temperature or by differences in thermal expansion.

Assuming the material is constrained by forces against it, not to allow expansion or contraction,

¥ä = E*¥á*¥ÄT

¥ä  : thermal stress (MPa)
E : elasticity modulus (MPa)
¥á : thermal expansion coefficient(1/¡É)
¥ÄT : temperature variation (¡É)
** compression with temperature increase, tension with temperature decrease
